There are several common air filter types which are made from a variety of materials. It’s beneficial for customers to take into consideration their specific needs when choosing a filter, as each kind functions uniquely and is ideal for different situations.
  1. Fiberglass or polyester: These filters are cost efficient and disposable, however, they don’t provide a great amount of protection against pollutants. They can be appropriate in certain situations, though. For example, a fiberglass air conditioner filter can be of use to a customer looking to simply protect their air unit from large particle debris.
  2. Washable and reusable: Because these filters can be cleaned, their lifespan is much longer. They’re also often size-adjustable. It’s important to note, however, it can be difficult to get them completely clean, and they’re not very effective with trapping smaller harmful particles.
  3. Pleated non-electrostatic: The pleats provide a larger surface area which enables these filters to trap more dangerous particles. They cost a little more than regular fiberglass panels, but, because they’re capable of capturing smaller particles, they are ideal for many circumstances. Customers shopping for a replacement furnace filter, for example, who own pets, will benefit from this type, as they’re better for trapping dander.
  4. Pleated electrostatic: This type of filter is equipped with charged particles that help trap dangerous air contaminants. It is the most effective for capturing harmful pollutants and allergens such as mold spores and pollen. Due to this ability, these filters are ideal for customers suffering from seasonal or regular allergies.
