Allergens in the home cause serious respiratory problems if they are left unchecked. Homeowners who suffer from allergies would do well to troubleshoot their air conditioning systems, especially the 3M air filter. Filters won’t stop every problem, but they will help to improve the air quality in your home when combined with other precautions.
Biological Problems
Biological causes usually stem from something that was once living, but may occur in areas of extreme moisture. Mold, for instance, loves growing in walls with leaky pipes or below sinks. Water spilled on carpets can be another issue, especially if a large volume of water is left standing. As it dries, mold spores form in the musty conditions. Mold can also grow in your plant life, or as a result of standing food or water left unchecked.
Particulates
3M filters are designed to trap particulate matter within the special fibers of the filter. If the filter is left unchecked for too long, it is unable to adequately trap particles and it clogs. This forces your HVAC system to work harder circulating air through the home, but it also prevents the filter from doing its job. If the filter is clogged, it can’t trap pet dander or allergens. Replace these filters at least once every three months to make sure the filter doesn’t clog.
Other Tips
If you live in an area that experiences four seasons, you may have 3M furnace filters that need replacing as well. This will prevent dust from clogging the system, which is a potential fire hazard in addition to being a respiratory problem.
